| Theory of Machines and Properties of Materials
This catalogue deals primarily with forces and their effects. There are a huge number of demonstration models available for mechanical engineering (statics and dynamics) and for physics for technical professions.
The Statics, Dynamics, Applied Physics and Mechanical Demonstration Models sections deal with the following topics: forces, torques, simple machines, friction, gear units and vibrations. The Structural Mechanics section also covers many of these topics, but looks at them from the perspective of building structures, for example it analyses trusses. The Theory of Machines section includes equipment relating to machine components and deals with friction, threads, hydro-dynamic lubrication, tribology, drive components and complex gear analyses.
As well as Mechanical Engineering, there is also a section on Materials Testing. The Stress and Strain Analysis and Strength of Materials sections deal with non-destructive methods, while material testing analyses destructive methods (e.g. tensile test, impact test, fatigue strength). All Material Testing equipment is aimed at meeting didactic objectives. They are not designed to be of industrial testing quality. In Stress and Strain Analysis photoelastic analysis is predominantly used for demonstration, while strain gauge techniques are mainly used for quantitative analyses. Strength of Materials determines forces in components under load, allowing calculation of tension and production of failure hypotheses. In addition, it demonstrates different forms of component failure.
