Technical Description
The fixed biofilm process is an aerobic biological process. CE 701 demonstrates this process.
A pump transports the raw water from a storage tank into a rotating biological contactor. This consists of a large number of single disks arranged on a common shaft and roughly half immersed in the water. A thin film of micro-organisms (biofilm) forms on the disks. The micro-organisms degrade the dissolved organic matter in the raw water. The rotation of the disks causes the biofilm to come into contact alternately with raw water and air. This supplies the biofilm with oxygen. Over time, some of the biofilm sloughs off and exits the tank together with the water. The detached biofilms are then separated from the water in a final sedimentation tank.
Samples can be taken at all relevant points. The rotation speed of the biodisk and the delivery flow rate of the raw water can be varied.
