TM 225: Friction on Inclined Plane

Print Ask to this Articlel

Friction on Inclined Plane

Product Details

Technical Description

This unit enables experiments to be performed on weight and friction forces on an inclined plane as a function of the angle of inclination. The unit comprises a plane with a plastic coating, a pillar and a base plate. The inclination angle can be adjusted using swivelling joint and scale over a range of ±45°. Two sliding bodies each made of two different materials (steel, brass, aluminium and polypropylene) provide, in combination with the plane, reproducible measurements with very low "slip-stick" effects. As a result, it is possible to very clearly demonstrate the transition from static to sliding, and to clearly demonstrate the "friction cone".

Learning Objectives / Experiments
- Coefficients of friction for varying pairs of materials
- Transition static - sliding
- Depiction of the "friction cone"
- Static equilibrium of forces on an inclined plane

Features
* Reproducible sliding characteristics1
* Only minimal "slip-stick" effects
