Pascal-Pressure-Unit

The cylindrical form of pressure-distribution demonstrates the pressure-behaviour of an engine or a brake-cylinder. 4 outles are connected to a manometer. Pressure-build-up and pressure-decrease indicate similar values on the manometer. Thus the teacher can demonstrate in an easy way the use of such a system at various occa- sions.

Pressure Converter

The pressure-converter consists of 2 pressure-chambers with different surfaces. Via the air-pump, air enters through the air-cylinder. The piston is moved forward and deplaces the oil in the second pressure chamber. Due to the different surfaces, in the pistons, the oil-pressure increases. A selection of ratios 4:1 or 16:1 is possible. To be used in the theoretical course or in technical mathematics. On both sides, air and oil, you can measure the pressure. A single piston each is included. The student can thus calculate and measure the piston surface-size.

Depression-Control

Three pistons, different size, demonstrate the idea of a brake-booster. Here again, technical mathematics, help the students to calculate the various parameters. The relations between depression, piston surface and power-factor are clearly visible. Used in todays techniques, it proves to the students, that brake-boosters cannot be built into cars at random; hence each type of car or technique requires the appropriate brake-booster.

 

The experiments are easy. A depression-pump is included. The power on each cylinder can be measured on the manometer.

Hydraulic-Press

The power-transmission is laid out as in a brake-circuit. The working-piston has a small diameter – main brake cylinder –. The pressure-pistons are laid out sizewise as – wheel brake cylinder of a drum-brake – piston of a disc-brake.

The pedal-force, i.e. force on the working piston, can be adjusted stepless, similar to the force on the brake-force-pedal. You measure on the ma- nometer the volume-force and the various displacements of the pistons.

The results can be examined by calculation. By doing so, the student learns to understand the laws of a brake-circuit. Applicable in theoretical- lessons, laboratory-courses or technical mathematics.

  Teaching appliance"lncompressibility
When oil is subjected to pressure it shows a characteristic called"incompressibility", Le.whentheoil issubjectedtopressure, the change of volume is very small. This behaviour of oils and other liquids is applied in hydraulic presses, brake circuits and many other systems.

A graduated glass tube with piston contains brake liquid. Force is applied to the piston.

When gas is subjected to pressure, its volume is reduced due toitscompressibility;thismustparlicularlybetakenintoconsideration when large volumes are involved (e.g. in compressed air braking systems, pneumatic control systems).

The graduated glass tube with piston is filled with air by means of a pump. Force is applied to the piston and the piston moves intothe cylinder. The compressible behaviourof gasses can be demonstrated.

  Demonstration of piston force
This appliance is used for demonstrating the piston forces. The piston is subject to the effects of the normal force Fp and this force, in turn, acts upon the gas volume enclosed in the cylinder. This normal force results in a uniform pressure.

The pressure can therefore be calculated as follows:

                        piston force
gas pressure = ---------------- 
                        piston area

The appliance is supplied with 2 graduated glass tubes with pistons, diameters a = 15.4 mm and b = 31 mm, respectively.
